B: I think we’re using too many plastic bags .
우리는 비닐봉지를 너무 많이 쓰는 것 같아

G: I agree. It’s not good for the environment.
내 생각도 그래 . 그건 환경에 좋지 않아

How can we reduce our use of plastic bags?
어떻게 하면 우리가 비닐봉지 사용을 줄일 수 있을까?

B: In my opinion, we should bring reusable bags when we go shopping.
내 생각에 우리는 물건을 사러 갈 때 재사용할 수 있는 가방을 가져가야 해 .

G: Jiho, hurry up! The elevator is going up soon.
지호야, 서둘러 ! 엘리베이터가 곧 올라가.

B: The science room is just on the third floor. Why don’t we take the stairs?
과학실은 겨우 3층에 있잖아. 우리 계단을 이용하는 것이 어때?

G: I don't want to walk all the way up there.
나는 거기까지 걸어서 올라가고 싶지 않아

B: Come on . Elevators use lots of energy. We need to save energy to protect the environment.
생각해 봐. 엘리베이터는 많은 에너지를 사용해. 우리는 환경보호를 위해 에너지를 절약할 필요가 있어

G; But one elevator ride doesn’t use that much energy
하지만 엘리베이터 한 번 탄다고 그렇지 많은 에너지가 사용되진 않잖아

B: That’s true, but the energy from all the elevator rides adds up over time .
그건 맞아 , 하지만 엘리베이터를 탈 때마다 소요되는 에너지는 시간이 지나면서 누적이 돼


In my opinion, taking care of the environment starts with the little things
내 생각에 환경을 돌보는 것은 작은 것들로부터 시작해

you have a point. Let’s take the stairs
네 말이 일리가 있네. 계단을 이용하자

Today, I’d like to make a suggestion about the trash problem at our school.
오늘 저는 우리학교의 쓰레기 문제에 관한 제안을 하나 하고자 합니다

I’ve found that many student just throw things away instead of recycling them.
저는 많은 학생들이 물건들을 재활용하는 대신에 그냥 버리는 것을 발견 했습니다

As you know , however, recycling is very important because it saves resources and helps protect the environment.
하지만 , 여러분도 알다시피 , 재활용은 자원을 절약하고 환경을 보호하는 것을 돕기 때문에 매우 중요 합니다

So, in my opinion , we need to reduce the number of trash cans at school to encourage recycling.
그래서 , 제 생각에는 재활용을 장려하기 위해 교내 쓰레기통의 개수를 줄일 필요가 있습니다

Why don’t we place four different colored recycling bins on every floor instead?
대신에 각 층마다 4개의 다른 색깔의 재활용 통을 배치하는 것은 어떨까요?

This will remind students to separate the paper, glass, plastic, and cans properly
이는 학생들에게 종이, 유리 , 플라스틱 , 캔을 알맞게 분리해야 한다는 것을 상기시킬 것입니다




Listen & Talk 2

B: Our club is holding a photo contest next week.
다음 주에 우리 동아리에서 사진 대회를 개최해

G: What kinds of photos will be in it?
어떤 종류의 사진들이 출품되니 ?

B: The theme is pollution around the world.
주제는 전 세계의 오염이야.

We are holding this contest to raise students’ awareness of environmental problems.
우리는 환경 문제에 대한 학생들의 인식을 높이기 위해 이 대회를 개최하는 거야

G: That sounds nice. I can’t wait to see it!
멋지다 . 어서 그 대회를 보고 싶어 !

G: I read a cool article today.
나 오늘 굉장한 기사를 읽었어

B: What was it about?
무엇에 관한 기사였는데 ?

G: It was about a new bag. It just looks like a plastic bag, but it’s made mostly of corn.
새로운 봉지에 관한 기사였어. 그건 그냥 비닐봉지처럼 생겼는데 , 대부분이 옥수수로 만들어 졌어

B: That sounds really amazing
그거 정말 놀랍게 들린다

G: Yes, but there’s more. The bag breaks down in soil in only three months and disappears in about three minutes in warm water.
응, 하지만 그게 다가 아냐 . 그 봉지는 흙 속에서 단 세 달 만에 분해되고 따뜻한 물에서는 약 3분 만에 사라져!

B: Wow! That will help us reduce plastic waste by a lot !
와 ! 그건 우리가 플라스틱 쓰레기를 대폭 줄이는 데 도움이 될 것 같다 !
G: I know ! The company will start selling the bag sometime this year. I can’t wait to  use it!
내 말이 ! 그 회사는 올해 중으로 그 봉지를 판매하기 시작할 거야. 어서 그걸 사용하고 싶어!

B: What are we going to do this weekend , Mihee?
우리 이번 주말에 뭐 할까, 미희야?

G: Why don’t we go to the sheep park near my house?
우리 집 근처에 있는 양 공원에 가는 건 어때 ?

B: A sheep park? How interesting ! Are there really sheep in the park?
양 공원? 그거 참 흥미로운데 ! 공원에 정말 양이 있는 거야?

G: Yes. They are there to protect the environment.
응 양들은 환경을 보호하기 위해 그곳에 있어

B: How can they help the environment?
양들이 어떻게 환경에 도움을 줄 수 있지?

G: You know, people usually use chemicals to kill unwanted plants.
그러니까, 사람들은 보통 원치 않는 식물들을 없애기 위해 화학물질을 사용하잖아

The sheep in the park eat those plants, so the chemicals are not needed.
그 공원에 있는 양들이 그런 식물들을 먹어서, 화학물질이 필요하지 않은 거지 .

B: What a bright idea! I can’t wait to visit the park!
정말 기발한 생각이구나 ! 어서 그 공원에 가 보고 싶어 !
